Reading Time: < 1 minute

On July 25, 2019 at about 8:30 am, civilians rushed toward the sidewalk near 85 Atlantic Avenue.  A young woman was struck by a piece of metal that fell from a construction site and already suffered life-threatening injuries to the left side of her face when police arrived at the scene. Bystanders said it was as if a piece of metal had fallen from the sky.  Unfortunately, the stray material made contact with a pedestrian.

The metal that fell was part of an ongoing construction project in the North End of Boston, MA.  Pedestrians have a right to safety in public walkways, and a right to be compensated for an injury due to another party’s negligence.

Unsafe Construction Sites

Construction site accident injuries by fallen objects can be the result of several factors.  The factors that create an unsafe environment are:

  • Insufficient barricades,
  • Insufficient signage,
  • Lack of security for tools and equipment, and
  • Failure to maintain safe equipment.

General contractors, subcontractors, and/or the owner of the premises are responsible for their respective construction site.  Injuries from a fallen object usually show certain safety precautions weren’t met to avoid the incident and that construction companies are breaching their duty to maintain reasonable safety.

An injured person has a right to compensation for:

  • Medical expenses,
  • Lost wages,
  • Pain and suffering, and
  • Decreased quality of life.
