BOSTON — In a tragic incident last week, a third teenager succumbed to injuries following a rollover crash involving a stolen car in Boston, elevating the death toll to three. The Massachusetts State Police reported that a 2013 Hyundai Accent, carrying four teenagers, lost control and rolled over on Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester. According to the police, the vehicle was taken without permission from Jamaica Plain a few hours prior to the accident.

The early morning incident, which occurred just after 3 a.m. on January 4, resulted in the immediate deaths of two boys, aged 14 from Dorchester and 15 from Mattapan. The most recent fatality was a 17-year-old boy from Roslindale, who had been hospitalized in grave condition and later passed away. A fourth individual, a 15-year-old boy also from Dorchester, survived the crash and is expected to recover.

Authorities have withheld the identities of the victims as all involved were minors. Recovery of a firearm from the wreckage added a concerning element to the crash, though it is unclear how it relates to the event. Investigators are probing a potential connection between the incident and a dangerous social media challenge that encourages car thefts.

Massachusetts State Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the fatal crash, which has raised alarms about juvenile safety and the consequences of social media trends promoting illegal activity. Representatives from the State Police urge the community to come forward with any information that may aid in the investigation and foster prevention of future tragedies.

The community and the families of the victims have been left to cope with the aftermath of this calamity, highlighting the need for increased awareness and preventive measures against reckless behavior spurred by online challenges. No further details about the investigation or the condition of the surviving teen have been disclosed at this time.
